Dead Precedence
A series of hand-cut U.S. dollar bills with all mythologized wealthy and powerful white men removed.
The characters portrayed on our currency represent the patriarchal structure of our repressive government, and the white supremacy and exploitation of labor that provides the basis for our nation’s oppressive income inequality. These figures and their far-fetched “histories” result in the reproduction and conservation of the power structures that allow for the preservation of inequality in the contemporary United States. With the depictions of these mythologized characters removed, we are left with space to imagine alternatives to our current financial system.
